The Shimano M540 pedals have been slightly widened and flattened compared to their predecessors. This creates a larger contact surface between shoe and pedal. According to Shimano research, this results in an increase in pedaling efficiency compared to the previous M540 pedals. The mud-shedding design and two-sided engagement system ensure smooth engagement and release under all conditions. An 8mm Allen key is required for installation of these lightweight pedals.
