The special thing about these clay minerals is the combination of their shape and composition. They consist of many thin platelets. As a result, they have a very large surface area per unit weight. For bentonite clay minerals, this can be up to 800 m² per gram; by comparison, the most common clay mineral in the Netherlands (illite) has a maximum of 150 m² per gram. In addition, clay minerals are electrically charged at their edges due to their chemical composition. This charge is always neutralized by ions in the soil. This means that clay minerals have a high ion-binding capacity. Because of these properties, clay minerals can play an important role in soil fertility. The high adsorption (binding) capacity of clay minerals plays an important role. Clay minerals ensure that many ions (K, Ca, Mg, Na, NH4) and trace elements are bound and are only released when the concentration of one of these elements in the soil decreases. In this way, clay minerals ensure a constant supply of all kinds of nutrients. Nitrates are not directly bound by clay minerals, but due to the improved soil structure, there is less chance of nitrate leaching. Product specifications Clay minerals Edasil - 3kg - 3 kg Item description Clay minerals Edasil - 3kg Item number 8717677721177 Version 3 kg Product type Minerals & Clay Application Lawn, Vegetable garden, Garden plants Country of origin Netherlands Explanation_EM_agriton_system_for_a_healthy_soil.pdf Clay minerals are clay granules (2 to 5 mm in size) that improve the CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity) and soil fertility. They contain trace elements and are mined in southern Germany. These clay particles play a crucial role in soil fertility. They effectively regulate soil moisture. Furthermore, they ensure that essential trace elements, such as zinc, copper, and manganese, are bound and released when a deficiency occurs. Clay minerals, together with microorganisms, organic matter, and even sand grains, form an essential soil substance—the "clay-humus complex" (KHC). The clay-humus complex provides pH buffering, phosphate and sulfate regulation, nutrient exchange for plants, and even moisture, air, and heat management in the soil. Edasil has a pH (acidity) of 7-8, contains 6-8% moisture, and can absorb up to 135% water. Benefits Capacity to drain and retain water (absorption and capillary rise) Improve soil fertility and organic matter Improves soil structure Economical to use Easy to apply yourself Consumption Dosage: distribute 10kg Edasil clay minerals per 100 m² per year Can be spread all year round. Preferably in February / March / April. Can be spread together with the Seashell Lime (see tab "Matching products"). Environmental information about Clay Minerals Edasil - 3kg Not aggressive to materials, animals or soil Supports microbial life Less leaching of nutrients
