Description

Anteaters are edentulous, meaning they lack teeth. However, their long tongues are more than enough to swallow the 35,000 ants and termites they eat whole each day. The largest of the four anteater species, the giant anteater can reach over 2.5 meters (8 feet) in length from the tip of its snout to the end of its tail. It is covered in grayish-brown fur with white forelegs, black stripes running from its chest to its back, and a bushy tail. It measures 15 x 3.5 x 4.8 centimeters (6 x 1.4 x 1.9 inches).
