Instead of switching the light on and off with a switch, lights turn on and off based on motion. As soon as you enter a room, the lights turn on for you. The motion detector can be adjusted horizontally (for the room) and vertically (if you also go up or down a staircase). The lights turn off automatically when you leave the room. Switch-off time: the length of time the light stays on after the last motion is detected. This can be set between approximately 10 seconds and 4 minutes.
