The film Monster is based on Aileen Carol Wuornos' life

Aileen Lee Wuornos (Charlize Theron) lives on the street. She provides for her maintenance through street prostitution. She rents a garage like accommodation from Thomas (Bruce Dern), who more or less also watches her. Lee has been raped and humiliated several times at a young age and this has influenced her view of life. A life that does not give hope and in which Lee has a great distrust of men. Her life brightens up a bit when she meets the young teenage girl Selby (Christina Ricci) in a gay bar. A fragile friendship is created between the two, which gradually becomes closer. The family of Selby, she lives with an uncle and aunt, completely rejects her relationship with Lee. If Lee and Selby have agreed for a night of bowling, Lee tries to score some money. She is taken by a man to a quiet place. There she is tied and raped by him. She manages to loosen herself, then Lee shoots the man. She hides the corpse and uses his car. Lee promises herself and the naive Selby a new future, where Selby leaves her family to live with Lee. The pressure to score money is getting bigger, but her hatred of men who use prostitutes is also growing. She soon shoots her next customer, after which more will follow.
