Cable categories such as CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6, CAT7, and CAT8 can be mechanically connected because they use the same RJ45 connector form factor and wire gauge. However, with categories higher than CAT6a, the additional bandwidth and shielding of those cables will not be fully utilized, as the patch panel itself determines the technical upper limit. For optimal performance, the maximum certified support extends up to CAT6a. The RJ45 ports and the metal housing are equipped with electromagnetic shielding. This shielding is intended to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) from external electrical sources, thereby minimizing signal disturbances and supporting a more stable network connection. This patch panel is suitable for passively routing Power over Ethernet (PoE) within a CAT6a network installation.
