With the help of a close-up filter you can photograph from closer than the minimum distance at which your lens can normally photograph. You run the close-up filter for your lens. There are close-up filters with different strength, +1, +2, +3 and +4. How close you can differ per objective and the combination of the close-up filter.

The formula reads:
X: (D * x + 1)
- X is the minimum focal length of your lens in meters
- D is the dioptrie number (strength) on the close-up lens
Calculation example:
You have an objective that can focus from 55 centimeters and you use the close-up filter with a strength of +3. In this case the calculation is:
0.55: (3 * 0.55 + 1) And this is the same as
0.55: (1.65 + 1) or
0.55: 2.65 = 0.21 meters, so 21 centimeters
