Standing basses

Upright basses, also called double basses, are the largest and lowest-sounding string instruments in the string family. They are played standing or on a high stool with a bow or by plucking the strings (pizzicato), which provides a deep, full and resonant sound. Upright basses form the basis of the harmonic foundation in orchestras, jazz ensembles, chamber music and modern music styles.
