A mild, ready-to-use glycerin soap base/soap mass (melt and pour soap) for DIYers. Melt the raw soap in a double boiler at 70-75°C (168-175°F) or in a microwave at 50-70°C (122-178°F). Melting over a double boiler: Cut or chop the soap base into smaller pieces and place them in a heatproof container. Heat water in a pan until the temperature is below boiling. Place the container with the soap in the double boiler. The soap melts at 70-75°C (168-175°F). Melting in the microwave: Chop the soap base into small pieces and place them in a microwave-safe bowl. Set the temperature to 80% of the maximum setting and heat the soap for a maximum of 30 seconds at a time. Remove the bowl, stir, and then replace it in 30-second intervals until all the soap has melted. This is a quick and effective technique. If desired, you can add fragrance oil, soap dye, etc., to the liquid soap mixture before pouring it into silicone molds. After pouring into the mold, ideally let the soap sit for a few days before packaging.
