Worm tea contains many nutrients and enzymes that help plants grow and make them more resistant to diseases and pests.   Biological waste 40% of all household waste is biowaste and can therefore easily be composted. What could be more fun, easier and interesting than doing it at home or at school!? Not only does the waste mountain decrease, but waste can be used to make something that is very useful to use at home. The beautiful appearance also makes it easier to start composting at home.   So what can be composted? All plant and vegetable waste, egg shells, tea bags, spent flowers, paper handkerchiefs, etc. can be added. Please note: DO NOT add meat, bones, fish bones, milk/milk products, fats or oils! Preferably nothing from citrus fruits either. It usually takes about 3 months for the worms to compost the first bin. Especially in the beginning, it is important that you do not give too much green waste at the same time. It is better to regularly (twice a week) add smaller quantities, preferably chopped small. The maximum quantity per container is approximately 10cm. If you have the impression that the worms are not eating at all, stop feeding them for a week. Worms have no teeth, so the food must first soften. The smaller the food is made, the faster bacteria, spores and micro-organisms make the food suitable for the worms. Start adding green waste again when you see that the top layer is composting. Too much food can cause all kinds of problems, such as odors. Shake the container in question and turn over food so that oxygen can reach it better and the worms can compost faster. Worms, just like people, want something variety in their food. So give different types of food. If you notice that they do not eat certain substances, do not add them anymore for the time being. Worms can digest grass and leaves just fine, but it increases the temperature in the Worm Tower and the compost is not as rich. Fruit peels are much better. If the acidity (pH value) is less than 6, it is not good for the worms. A pH value of 7 is ideal. The value of 8 is the upper limit. Therefore, avoid adding too much acid in the form of lemon, oranges, grapefruit or onions. If necessary, sprinkle a small handful of lime over the waste every month or add carbon-rich material such as cardboard, newspaper or egg cartons to reduce the acidity. Make sure that the food is always moist like a squeezed-out sponge (not wet). The average humidity of green waste is 80%, so moisture is normal. If there is too much moisture in the Worm Tower it can start to smell. Turn on the tap, add dry material to the top container (coconut fiber, newspaper strings, paper towels, tissues, etc.) The liquid is excellent nutrition if you dilute it tenfold with water. If the material is too moist, the perforated bottoms of the containers can become clogged, which hinders the entry of oxygen and can therefore slow down the entire process. Shake it up and stir it up. If the system is too dry, add the compost tea back into the top container or add some moistened newspaper.
