Plant We work with oils of the highest quality: plant-based, organic and food-safe - including essential oils - and therefore packed with beneficial ingredients. To achieve this, we work together with breeders who share our beliefs. We also collect some of the plants in our beloved Wickenburgh Forest. Here we tend our soap herb garden and harvest various ingredients that have been growing here for centuries. Free from palm oil and irritants We never use palm oil, animal fats or irritants such as perfume oil, dyes or foam improvers. We use valuable raw materials to produce a rich soap that also feels nice on the sink! Wefzeep is biodegradable and of course not tested on animals. Except for the honey soap and shampoo – both made with honey from a local organic beekeeper – our entire range is vegan. Organic & handmade In our soap factory on the Westerkade in Utrecht, we make all our soaps by hand in a large pan. Per batch we make one hundred and fifty pieces in a block that is cut after twenty-four hours. The soap then matures for several weeks in our drying cabinets. After this process, a bar of throwing soap weighs about 100 grams. When the soaps are ready to be packaged, they are transported by bicycle to the social workshop in Wij aan de Werf. Here they are made by a great team of soap packers in a basement in Utrecht Environmental information about Werfzeep originated in 2009 from Evelien's love for old crafts and natural products. During a trip through Canada that she and Laurens made, she ended up on an idyllic family farm where, among other things, soap was made, with a ladle and a huge pan. The wooden house smelled like a fairytale and on the very first day Evelien helped make soap. To her surprise, this handmade soap, which was in the shower and by the sink, was soft and caring for her skin. Plagued with eczema from an early age, soap had been out of the question for years, but this soap turned out to be a completely different story than everything she had encountered up to that point and which mainly gave her tight skin. Soap made from oils is a completely different product than factory soap made from refined fatty acids, with additives such as foam improvers, synthetic perfumes and preservatives, from which the glycerine has also been skimmed off. This discovery was enough for Evelien to become completely captivated by soap, the artisanal soap boiling, all possible ingredients and the effect on the skin. She started developing her soaps in a historic wharf cellar on the Utrechtse Oudegracht. Now, eight years later, she works with a growing team in the beautiful soap studio on the Westerkade.
