A colorful masterpiece by director John Huston (African Queen, Annie), based on the life of Toulouse Lautrec, a Parisian artist from the 19th century who suffered a growth disorder due to an accident in his youth.
John Huston beautifully portrays the atmosphere of Montmartre, its characters, as well as Lautrec's distorted view of existence. As a result, Moulin Rouge was nominated six times for an Oscar in 1952, ultimately winning two for Art Direction and Costume Design.
The remake of this film by director Baz Luhrmann was released in 2001 and was once again nominated for the Oscars.
