A compact watercolor set with twelve colors inspired by the color palette of Vincent van Gogh 's Portrait of Camille Roulin . Camille was the youngest son of the postal clerk Joseph Roulin, with whom Van Gogh had befriended in Arles, France. Van Gogh wanted to create "modern portraits" that would do justice to the character of his model. "I'm trying it with color," he wrote to his sister Willemien. The blue of the beret, the green and red of the jacket, and the yellow of the background: all these colors are reflected in Camille's face.
