The film Monster is based on the life of Aileen Carol Wuornos

Aileen Lee Wuornos (Charlize Theron) lives on the streets. She supports herself by prostituting herself. She rents a garage as shelter from Thomas (Bruce Dern), who also keeps an eye on her. At a young age, Lee was repeatedly raped and humiliated, and this has affected her outlook on life. It's a life that doesn't exactly inspire hope, and in which Lee harbors a deep distrust of men. Her life brightens up a bit when she meets the young teenage girl Selby (Christina Ricci) in a gay bar. A fragile friendship develops between the two, which gradually grows stronger. Selby's family—she lives with an aunt and uncle—strongly disapproves of her relationship with Lee. When Lee and Selby arrange to go bowling, Lee tries to score some money. A man takes her to a secluded spot. There, he ties her up and rapes her. She manages to break free, and Lee then shoots the man dead. She hides the body and continues using his car. Lee promises himself and the naive Selby a new future, with Selby leaving her family to live with Lee. The pressure to make money grows, but her hatred of men who use prostitutes also grows. She soon shoots her next client, followed by others.
