In the case of stretch films for pallet stabilization, this was a difficult story until recently. After all, one must always be able to assume that the quality of pallet development will (literally) remain intact.    After many test kilometers, we believe that we can now supply a Bio-based stretch film that can compete in strength with the very best stretch films. This stretch film is of such good and stable quality.    Relative to With the standard wrapping films, a material reduction of up to 50% can also be achieved! That is a double environmental benefit without extra costs.    What is so sustainable about bio-based film? Bio-based stretch film is made from at least 50% granulate (green PE) that is extracted from biomass, in this case sugar cane. Of course, this film is also 100% recyclable. Circular, renewable and of natural origin are the terms that apply to this foil. The big gain here is the reduction in fossil fuel use. The sugar cane plantations also provide additional CO2 absorption. So you are environmentally conscious!    In this case, bio-based does not mean that it will disappear automatically if it ends up in nature, unfortunately. Although it breaks down faster than normal film, you must dispose of this stretch film in the normal manner in the plastic waste stream. This film is not compostable, bio-degradable or biodegradable. So it is not allowed in the organic waste bin. This is also the reason why this foil is simply transparent white in color.    Is bio-based stretch film more expensive than standard film? No, to guarantee the best quality, the high-quality Coex-Blown foil technique (multi-layer, blown foil) is used. This technique is more complex and therefore more expensive than the standard cast technique (drawn film), which results in a higher roll price. However, due to this high quality, the stretchability and tear resistance are much higher than the standard foil. For comparison: with 5 wraps around a pallet with a standard 20my foil you use approximately 168 grams of foil, with Fixstretch-biobased 12my you use only 68 grams. This is because you can stretch the foil much further and it is of course thinner. The stability of the pallet is at least as good. That is a material reduction of more than 50%. This ultimately also means a reduction in the costs per pallet development. There are also environmental benefits to be gained from this: because you use less foil, you also produce less waste!   In addition, the so-called stretch memory is better than standard foil, so that the foil always remains tight around the pallet when the pallet load moves during transport.      Product specifications Biobased shrink film - 300m Item description Biobased shrink film - 300m Item number 8719325674125 Country of origin Netherlands Environmental information about Biobased shrink film - 300m Biobased materials The term 'biobased' only says something about the origin of the material and nothing about the end-of-life. 'Biobased' refers to materials made from renewable raw materials such as starch, sugar, cellulose, lactic acid, proteins or via micro-organisms. Currently it usually comes from corn, beet, sugar cane, wood, potato, tapioca root or castor nuts, for example, but in the future it will mainly also come from residual materials and waste streams. The term 'renewable' generally refers to a term within 10 years. Biobased plastics can be compostable or recyclable, but this is not always the case.   Biobased packaging materials include materials such as paper, cardboard and wood, as well as the much newer biobased plastics. We will concentrate on this last group because it contains the most developments and innovations take place.   Bioplastics differ from conventional plastics in that the raw material of bioplastics is made from biobased material or that the material is compostable or both.   For the term 'biobased': see above.   (N.b. Biobased Packaging.NL only focuses on biobased plastics.) Bioplastics are divided into three groups of biobased plastics (or partly biobased) that are compostable (including PLA, PHA, PBS, starch or cellulose based plastics); biobased plastics (or partly biobased) that are not compostable (including bio-PE, bio-PET, bio-PA and bio-PTT); plastics that are not biobased (i.e. oil-based) but are compostable (including PBAT, PCL). The difference between bioplastics and biobased plastics is that bioplastics include an additional group: oil-based plastics that are fully compostable (provided EN 13432 is certified).
