Product can be used with the Bokashi kitchen bucket. Additional information about Effective Micro-organisms The Bokashi bucket in which we ferment kitchen waste is the end product of years of research by the Japanese professor Teruo Higa. He discovered that good bacteria can be activated by administering Effective Micro-organisms. In doing so, he distances himself from the current agricultural techniques that are based on killing harmful micro-organisms with large amounts of chemicals. With Effective Micro-organisms, professor Higa has discovered that good bacteria come to life and suppress the harmful bacteria. EM is based on research and experience and is used worldwide in professional agriculture and horticulture. Effective Micro-organisms ensure balance in the areas of environment, health and food supply. EM is a composition of various micro-organisms, each with a specific task. These include yeasts and lactic acid bacteria. They all occur in nature. EM is all about activating the good bacteria, instead of killing them with chemicals as is usual. The main ingredient in Bokashi starter is wheat bran that has been fermented with EM-Active. This can be recognized by a sweet and sour smell, comparable to the fermentation of wine and beer. Product specifications Bokashi starter - wheat bran with EM - 2kg Article description Bokashi starter - wheat bran with EM - 2kg Article number 717677721450 Version 2kg Country of origin Netherlands What is Bokashi? Bokashi is the Japanese word for "well fermented organic material". The organic materials are packed airtight. This allows a fermentation process to take place in which useful metabolic products of micro-organisms are created. This preservation technique preserves the energy in the product. Just like sauerkraut, Bokashi has a higher nutritional value than non-fermented organic matter. Bokashi is suitable as a soil improver and is a source of nutrition for micro-organisms that live in the soil. These then establish themselves permanently in the soil, multiply and dominate the harmful bacteria, viruses and fungi present. Traditionally, Bokashi is used in Japan to increase microbial diversity in the soil and to provide plants with bio-active nutrients, such as growth hormones, antibiotics, vitamins and amino acids. Plants thus receive more essential energy and greater resistance to harmful bacteria and fungi. The neutral micro-organisms that initially chose the, until then, dominant harmful micro-organisms in a pathogenic soil, will now join the effective micro-organisms of EM. A pathogenic soil thus becomes a disease-suppressing soil. Within agriculture and horticulture, this is the most effective, sustainable way to get more benefit from the soil. Bokashi starter: Basic product for your own soil improver To help you make your own unique soil improver, a basic product has been developed, called Bokashi starter. The main ingredient of this is wheat bran (a conditioned residual product from the industry), which has been fermented with EM Active. The useful micro-organisms from EM Active have converted the bran into a high-quality fermented product with a remarkable sweet and sour smell. Bokashi starter is a solid product and is preferable to the liquid EM Active for the application of the production of GFT Bokashi. With EM Active, there is a chance that the moisture content of the GFT Bokashi becomes too high. For this reason, a special kitchen bucket has been designed that can drain off the excess moisture, the so-called Bokashi Kitchen Bucket. With the help of Bokashi starter, you can make a soil improver from your own organic waste that promotes nutrition, structure, water and air management and life in the soil.
