De Standaard, for example, sets requirements for factories regarding the use of harmful chemicals. In addition, factories have the obligation to use a sustainable waste water system and to handle water and energy economically. GOTS also includes criteria regarding working conditions, which are based on the standards of the International Labor Organization, such as the right to trade union freedom and the right to safe and healthy working conditions. The GOTS standard is used in the processing of organic fibers. Certain recognized standards and certificates for organic agriculture are permitted by GOTS, then certification based on GOTS starts with the first step in the processing. Gots is managed by the International Working Group (IWG), which consists of four organizations, namely: International Association Natural Textile Industry (IVN) in Germany, Soil Association (SA) in England, Organic Trade Association (OTA) in America and the Japan Organic). A control organization checks whether the requirements are met. Control Union, for example, carries out checks and there are also other organizations that are allowed to carry out these checks after they have received approval from the IWG.
