Iromuji kimonos

The Iromuji is a traditional, monochrome Japanese kimono in one solid color without painted patterns, worn by both married and unmarried women. Due to its modest and minimalist appearance, this garment is the absolute standard for the Japanese tea ceremony, because the clothing does not distract from the actions. Although the fabric is solid in color, it often contains a luxuriously woven damask structure (Rinzu) that subtly shines in the light. The formal status of the Iromuji is extremely flexible and is determined by the number of family crests affixed (Kamon) and the choice of the accompanying Obi belt, which effortlessly transforms her from a modest mourning dress to an elegant, festive robe.
