This expansion is the fourth major addition to the popular board game of the past decades. It contains various scenarios that gradually introduce new rules. This expansion is all about discovering new areas. Key new mechanics include sailing ships, picking up and dropping off passengers and goods, and three challenging missions.
- Land in Sight: This is the introductory scenario where most of the new rules are introduced. You can actually sail your ship, develop villages into harbors, load and unload settlers and goods, build villages in various ways, and receive rewards for discovering land.
- Pirate ships make things difficult, and the mission rules give you the opportunity to score extra points. For example, you must successively conquer pirate depots, catch fish for the Council of Catan, and transport spices.
- The ultimate scenario, "Pirates & Explorers," combines all the missions! This offers avid Catan players hours of fun.
This expansion can only be combined with the updated version of The Settlers of Catan.
