For example, the standard sets requirements for factories regarding the use of harmful chemicals. In addition, factories are obliged to use a sustainable wastewater system and to use water and energy sparingly. GOTS also includes criteria for working conditions, which are based on the standards of the International Labour Organization, such as the right to freedom of association and the right to safe and healthy working conditions. The GOTS standard is applied deep into the chain in the processing of organic fibres.
