Description
Joel McCrea plays the local farmhand who is about to lose his best friend and the woman he loves in a confrontation with a ruthless gang of rustlers. When Molly Wood (Barbara Britton), an educated lady from the East, arrives in a town in Wyoming to replace the school teacher, the Virginian (McCrea) and his best friend Steve (Sonny Tufts) are immediately attracted to her. Both do their best to win her over. Hoping to make a quick buck, Steve ignores his friend's warnings and joins the corrupt gang of Trampas (Brian Donlevy). He is caught stealing cattle. The Virginian must choose between his friend and compliance with the strict laws of the West. When he is shot during a chase after the brutal gang leader, there is a good chance he will lose Molly. She is torn between her urge to flee the lawless West and her love for her cowboy.
