The argan oil in this product is produced by a cooperative of women in Morocco. They have been using the oil for centuries for cooking and as a personal care product. Traditionally, argan oil production is a woman's job, and because the oil can now be produced and exported on a large scale, their independence and social status are increasing. Production is still largely manual, which creates employment and therefore higher income. Since 2011, the cooperative with which FairSquared works has been Fairtrade certified.
