Kalaha is one of the world's oldest strategy games. It was known in a similar form to the ancient Egyptians and Assyrians. As a result, the game also has several names, such as Mancala or Awale. The goal of the game is to collect as many stones as possible in one's own Kalaha pit. It does not matter which player starts. This player distributes the contents of one of their pits clockwise, i.e. counter-clockwise, into the subsequent pits (their own and the opponent's), but places only one stone in each pit. One stone is also placed in one's own Kalaha pit, but the opponent's Kalaha pit is always skipped. If the last stone lands in one's own Kalaha pit, one may or must play again. If the last stone falls into one's own empty pit, one may take all stones that are exactly in the opponent's opposite pit and place them in one's own Kalaha pit.
