The Botanical Gardens are home to a wealth of special plants, and Werfzeep uses them to make special soaps. This third edition is made with cedar of Lebanon and bay leaf harvested in the Botanical Gardens. We distilled the twigs and needles of the cedar of Lebanon and bay leaf into hydrolate and essential oil. It has become a delicious sweet and spicy soap. In this blog you can read about the process of harvesting, distilling and making soap. organic & handmade - vegan - free from palm oil, plastics or chemicals such as SLS - no animal testing. Plants We work with oils of the highest quality: vegetable, organic and food safe - including essential oils - and therefore packed with beneficial ingredients. To achieve this, we collaborate with breeders who share our beliefs. We also collect some of the plants in our beloved Wickenburgh Forest. Here we tend our soap herb garden and harvest various ingredients that have been growing here for centuries. Free from palm oil and irritants We do not use palm oil, animal fats or irritants such as perfume oil, dyes or foam enhancers. Environmental information about Organic & handmade In our soap factory on the Westerkade in Utrecht, we make all our soaps by hand in a large pan. We produce 150 pieces per batch in a block that is cut after 24 hours. The soap then matures for several weeks in our drying cabinets. After this process, a bar of throwing soap weighs approximately 100 grams. When the soaps are ready to be packaged, they are transported by bicycle to the social workshop in Wij aan de Werf. Here they are packed by a great team of soap packers in a cellar on the Oudegracht near our soap studio.
